Below are a few methods we use to resolve water drainage issues.
This is one of the most popular methods used to prevent sub-surface water from entering your lawn or home. A French Drain is a trench dug around the perimeter of your home or lawn that redirects water away from a specific area. Perforated pipe is installed, wrapped with a filter fabric, and then covered with gravel. The water is captured and then redirected to a desired location. These drains are also often used behind retaining walls to keep them from failing. While doing this it makes sense to tie in your homes downspouts to capture all of the water exiting your roof and gutters. We also like to add clean-outs to our systems so that your drain can be flushed and provide many many years of worry free use.
In some cases a Dry Well can be incorporated into our drainage solution plan. French drains can be directed into a dry well and then distributed into local ground water. Dry wells are underground and can accommodate massive amounts of rainwater, store it, and then distribute it slowly into the ground. These systems act as an endpoint for all of the water we have directed from your problem areas. The Dry Well will be filled with gravel or rip-rap and the drainage pipes will direct water into it. Once our experts do a site analysis of your property we can determine if this method should be used, along with the size and location of the well itself.
Typically, rain water will follow the path of least resistance. This is why having the correct grading is so important. Having the proper slopes directing water away from your property is essential to avoiding wet conditions. We will determine the proper flow of water to direct it away from your lawn or home and can regrade these areas with gentle slopes to achieve this. A slight incline may be all that is needed to stop water from pooling or from entering your homes foundation. If major site regrading is needed we are equipped to handle that also. The use of excavators and skid steers allows us to completely re-contour your existing landscape.
While all three of these methods are very effective on their own, sometimes a combination of the three are what the job calls for. Call us at 607-343-8171 so our drainage experts can advise you of the right plan for your specific situation.
